22 Jan (01): Prime Factorisation (continues...)

Textbook p9 #25: The three factors are 891, 539 and 2673.
The Prime factorisation of a number is 2^4 X 3^5 X 7^2 X 11.
Write down 3 factors of the number that are greater than 100.
(Hint: 16 X 11 = 176, which is a factor.)

16=2x2x2x2
15=3x3x3x3x3
49=7x7

3x3x3x3x11=891
7x7x11=539
3x3x3x3x3x11=2673

Textbook p9 #26:
The Prime factorisation of two numbers are 2 X 3^2 X 7^3 X 13 and 3 X 7^2 X 13^3 X 17 .

Brainworks

Answer: I agree. Since odd numbers make up most of the prime numbers, and you get an even number after adding two odd numbers, it is safe to say that " Every even number greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of two prime numbers."

Communication

Communication is important as without communication, the world would be quiet and no one would be able to even survive if you think very far. I believe it is also a form of ice-breakers. My favourite form of communications are via the telephone and handphone as i can talk and it is one of the fastest way to communicate with one another. If I am in a formal situation, I will whisper to the person. If I'm at a party or any other noisy situation, I can just shout across the place. I cannot communicate well with strangers. If they don't talk to me, then I most likely won't take the initiative to talk to them unless it is a really awkward situation.

Camping- Sarimbun Scout Camp

At camp, I did many new things, like rock climbing and the leap of faith. Though I've done many of the obstacles before, it felt different, as i was doing it with a whole new group of people. All in all, it was a new yet great experience. I've found out many things about my classmates and made friends with practically the whole class. Everyone also learned the importance of teamwork, cooperation and the sense of urgency when you do things as a team. Without the three mentioned, the team will fail. Leadership and the assignment of roles are equally important, as without roles, nobody will know what to do and everyone will end up waiting for each other.

The Amazing Race- Reflection

I have only one word to describe the amazing race-' sweaty'. Really, we spent around 3 hours walking from checkpoint to checkpoint. Everyone was all energetic at first, but after reaching block 304 and 310, the class split,after no one knew which route to take to the blocks, talking in groups of our own and blocking the path. In the end, we decided to cut through the grassland, making our shoes all muddy. Reaching the two blocks, we finally realized why SST wanted us to walk past the two blocks. There was the St. Luke's Eldercare at block 310 and MINDS at 304. Seeing the group of mentally disabled people was...disturbing at first, but sympathy followed soon after. I realized that not many people know that there are actually this group of people staying there. I believe that the school value "Expanding our Learning Networks" is in place here. To help those mentally disabled, we can make cash donations and volunteer to help out there. Expanding our learning networks is very important as the society is progressing very fast, and if we are not proactive, we will fall behind.

Team Building Challenge (II)

'Forging Excellence' to me means to give it your all in whatever you do. I believe that I will achieve excellence through my being diligent and being proactive. By listening and observing my surroundings, I believe I will achieve excellence. Having a positive attitude will also help. In order to help my class succeed, I can make sure that no one is left out of discussions and that everyone agrees with decisions so that all of us can play a part in making sure that our class succeeds in reaching the final goal.

Building Bridges Beyond Boundaries

Working in a team gives me reassurance that i wouldn't have to face the challenge alone but brings in the fear that i would not work well with my teammates. Overall, i got along quite well with my teammates and we did not meet any challenging problems while building the bridge. Nearing the end, one of my teammates got angry as he was doing the work all alone while the rest of the engineers were fooling around. After that, we realized the importance of cooperation and teamwork that was needed in order to complete work smoothly. I would be more hardworking and take more initiative the next time my team does a project. At first, i felt hesitant about sharing my ideas as i was afraid that they would be rejected, but after some time, i felt more comfortable as my teammates were easygoing and i enjoyed the whole experience throughly.
